As temperatures plummet and wind chills dip into the single digits, Walt Disney World is making significant changes to the operating hours of its beloved water rides, Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Kali River Rapids. This decision comes in response to an Extreme Cold Warning that has settled over the Orlando area, with temperatures hovering in the 20s.
This weekend, both attractions will operate on a modified schedule. Specifically, on Sunday, February 1, and Monday, February 2, they will open later and close earlier than usual, which may disappoint thrill-seekers hoping for a fun day in the water.
Revised Hours for Each Ride
For Tiana's Bayou Adventure located in Magic Kingdom:
- Sunday, February 1: Open from 11 AM to 7 PM
- Monday, February 2: Open from 11 AM to 8 PM
For Kali River Rapids found in Animal Kingdom:
- Sunday, February 1: Running from 12 PM to 6 PM
- Monday, February 2: Operating from 11 AM to 6 PM
Notably, both rides will see significantly reduced operational hours, with Kali River Rapids only available for six hours each day. This raises an important question: why are these adjustments necessary?
The modifications are in direct response to the National Weather Service's issuance of an Extreme Cold Warning for all of east central Florida. As of this morning, temperatures have already shattered daily low records, dipping into the low-to-mid 20s, accompanied by wind chill factors ranging from 9 to 15 degrees.
Looking ahead, the cold snap isn’t expected to relent anytime soon. An additional Extreme Cold Warning will be in effect from 7 PM tonight until 10 AM Monday morning.
Forecast for Monday Morning:
- Low temperatures: Low-to-mid 20s
- Wind chills: Expected to feel like 14 to 20 degrees
- Hard freeze conditions anticipated
Even as daytime highs on Monday struggle to reach the 50s, it’s clear why Kali River Rapids will close at 6 PM both days. With temperatures remaining uncomfortably low for water-based activities, it's advisable for guests to plan their visits accordingly.
