Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement for the transfer of Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, who is set to move to Anfield in the summer in a deal worth up to £60m. The 20-year-old has been a target for Chelsea, but the player changed his mind and decided to join Liverpool after Chelsea's squad was deemed overloaded with young centre-backs. Jacquet is expected to have his medical with Liverpool on Deadline Day. Liverpool are in need of centre-back options, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate their only fit senior players in that position, and Konate's contract set to expire at the end of the season. Liverpool's move for Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace last summer collapsed at the last minute, but they have now secured Jacquet after Chelsea's offer. French football expert Julien Laurens believes Jacquet is a 'real deal' and has the potential to be 'amazing', despite his young age and lack of experience at the top level.
